DUTIES:

Primary caregiver for young child (4 months old to more than 1 year old) - She is the primary caregiver throughout the day, she feeds him both milk bottles and solid food, reads to him, plays with him and genuinely cares deeply for him. She proactively encouraged him to work towards milestones and language development, conversing with him constantly since the beginning. She is never on her phone and always within arm’s reach, actively engaging with him.

Performs all household chores - All household cleaning, dishes, and laundry are performed by her. She is able to do this even while performing caregiver duties for our child. Prior to having our child she would perform full house cleaning daily.

Maintenance requests and monitoring - Almost all maintenance requests that are required for our home run through Theresa. She contacts complex maintenance, ensures that the problem is communicated, monitors maintenance staff while they are performing the work, corrects them if they are trying to cut corners, and follows up to attempt to keep them accountable if they are not able to perform all work at one time.

Cooking - Currently cooks dinner 3 times a week. Prior to having our child she would prepare dinner 5 nights a week. She takes direction well and is always happy to try new recipes.

Shopping - performs all routine shopping for the household, creates lists to allow her to make the menus she will cook, and follows any additional lists we give her and attempts to fulfill all requests.

OTHER NOTES:

-She takes her job extremely seriously, and actively seeks any opportunity to increase her knowledge and skills.

-She vigorously advocates for our family, including our dog, when other Nigerians (such as maintenance staff) aren't treating any of us the way that she believes that we should be treated.

-Has absolutely no issue with our very large dog. She is just as attentive and concerned with his wellbeing as she is with our child.

-Nearly always is available for additional work hours, for us she works as both a dog sitter while we travel and a babysitter on date nights.

-Very communicative. Gives detailed updates about our child, takes direction well. We always feel like we know what is going on in our home thanks to Theresa.

Theresa has been a godsend for our family and has given us a ton of peace of mind while watching both our young child and our dog. Angela has worked for consulate personnel for over 15 years and has worked with expats in general for over 25 years. Her experience has come in very handy as she is always dedicated to her job, leaving the house spotless and understanding how to cook many international and domestic favorites. In particular, she has good to great lengths to find the best quality ingredients and ensure food safety. Additionally, she finds many maintenance problems before they become issues and promptly gets them fixed. Evelyn lived in our domestic quarters which she kept immaculate at all times.  She kept to herself on weekends, but was also available to work when requested on her days off.  She regularly informed me if she was leaving the compound. 

Her normal job duties included keeping the household clean, doing laundry, ironing clothes, and taking care of our dog.  She easily was able to perform all her job duties. She followed instructions very welll and was always  willing and eager to learn new things.   Our house always smelled nice and clean despite the humidity. 

She could be counted on to receive items ordered to the house and/or to coordinate and supervise any repair work done by either the facilities team or the compound maintenance team.  

She maintains excellent relationships with other compound domestic employees, as well as, the facilities and compound maintenance teams.   She was kind and courteous to all persons who entered our home at all times.  

When she started working for me, we were a family of three with a dog.  After two years, my spouse was unable to return to post and my daughter went to college, which drastically changed our home life. Evelyn took the changes in stride and became our dog’s primary caretaker. She fed her, walked her, and advised me of any health concerns.  But most importantly, she loved our dog and took great care of her even when we were on R and R for long periods of time.  She also took good care of me and helped me adjust to my new normal. 

In addition to all of this, Evelyn was adept at helping us before, during, and after all our  events.  When we had events as large as for 100 guests or more, our home looked like if nothing ever happened after guests left,  as she immediately cleaned and put away leftovers and decorations. 

Evelyn has worked for multiple Consulate families and is extremely honest.  We never had to worry that anything left out would go missing, in fact, Evelyn would point out when valuables were left out of  their place.  She wouldn’t take any food if it was not expressly offered to her.  In some instances when i forgot to advise her I made arrangements for a driver to use our car, Evelyn would call us to verify they had our permission before releasing our car keys.  Likewise, if she was unaware a maintenance person was scheduled to do work in our home, she would check in with me or my spouse. 

She has cared for young children and pets for previous employers.  Although, she didn’t cook for me (I like cooking), she took lessons from other stewards and learned some recipes from me.  She was excellent at prepping for me to cook and is trained in cleaning fruits and vegetables.  

In short, if you are looking for an honest, stable, efficient, and trustworthy steward, Evelyn would make a great addition to your home.   We will sorely miss her as we move on.
